DAVID J. FALK

David J. Falk, son of Jacob and Maria Falk, was born on a farm southwest of Mt. Lake, Minn. on Feb. 12, 1883. At the age of four he moved with his parents to his present farm northeast of Mt. Lake. During his boyhood he learned the rugged lessons of pioneer life and at an early age began herding cattle and sheep to do his part in helping to provide for the family. He received the usual education of a frontier boy, attending the little country school whenever he could.

At the age of 21 he made his public confession of faith in Jesus Christ, was baptized by Elder Gerhard Neufeld, and was received into the First Mennonite Church of Mt. Lake where he remained a member till his death.

On Oct. 11, 191, he was united in marriage with Anna Derksen. To this happy union two sons were born.

In 1944, 33 years after their marriage, they left the farm and moved to Mt. Lake. It was soon after this that Mrs. Falk began showing symptoms of her present illness. Father cared for her increasingly as the illness advanced. Mother's condition was always one of his great concerns. He bore with her patiently, and in caring for her he offered himself to the very end.

In 1946, father was hospitalized for 21 days. Since then he had enjoyed comparatively good health until the past winter when he became ill. He entered the hospital on June 6 and soon realized that humanly speaking there was no help for him. He began making plans for his departure. To his pastor he frequently expressed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He endured suffering bravely and waited patiently for his release and his entrance into Heaven.

On Sept. 12, 1956, at the age of 73, this welcome release came. He was the youngest of seven children, and is the last to go.

He leaves to mourn his passing his dear wife; two sons, Clarence of Mt. Lake, and Leonard of Sherwood, Colo.; a daughter-in-law; two grand-daughters, Dorothy and Judy; as well as other relatives and friends.

Services were held Sept. 14 in the First Mennonite Church of Mountain Lake, with Rev. Willard Wiebe and Rev. I. J. Dick officiating. Interment took place at the local cemetery.
