text of obituary:

John Ewy.

John Ewy, son of John and Margaret Ewy, was born in Austria, Oct. 16, 1868 [sic 1866], and departed this life March 26, 1934 at Larned, Kans. He came to America with his parents at the age of fifteen years. They located in Pennsylvania, where they resided one year, then to Harvey county, where they lived one year, and then came to Hodgeman county where he made his home until the time o his death. As a youth he accepted Christ and placed his membership with the Mennonite church, and remained a faithful and active member of this organization until his death.

During the past year his health gradually failed. The last three months he was constantly under the doctor’s care. He bore all his afflictions with great patience and submitted himself entirely to the will of his Heavenly Father, and on many occasions expressed his desire to enter his heavenly Home.

He was united in marriage to Mina Miller Dec. 25, 1892. To this union seven children were born. He leaves at the time of his death his wife, Mina Ewy, four sons, Jacob Otto and Earnest [sic Ernest] of Hanston and Walter of Radium, and three daughters, Mrs. Elrick of Pauwnee Rock, and the Misses Freda [sic Frieda] and Hilda of Hanston. He also leaves eleven grandchildren, one brother, Gustav Ewy of Arlington, one sister, Mrs. D. B. Hamlin of Rosston, Okla., and also his step-mother, Mrs. Magdalena Ewy, three half-brothers, Henry, Daniel and Alfred Ewy of Hanston, two half-sisters, Mrs. Jacob Hubin of Jetmore and Miss Elizabeth Ewy of Hanston, also a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ed Ewy of Halstead, Kans. Besides these he leaves a large circle of relatives and friends to mourn his departure. Mr. Ewy was especially known for his hospitality and in his home many guests received a hearty welcome. He loved to share with others the material things that God had entrusted in his charge, and because of these things and his friendly disposition, he made for himself many warm friends who together with his loved ones keenly feel his departure.

The funeral was in charge of Rev. T. A. van der Smissen of Pawnee Rock. The male quartette of Pawnee Rock sang several numbers.
