Minnie Goertz Ewert was born to Franz F. and Maria Ekkert Goertz on a farm east of Hillsboro, Kan, Dec. 4, 1881, and died Feb. 11, 1967 at the age of 85 years, two months and seven days.

She attended the Lighthouse School. In 1896 she was baptized by Rev. John D. Bartel and joined the Johannestal Mennonite Church.

On Feb. 23, 1899 she was united in marriage with Jacob Ewert, with whom she shared joys and sorrows for 65 years. They farmed in the Hillsboro community. This union was blessed with nine children. Their first child, William, preceded her in death at the age of 17 months. The other eight children are all living in the Hillsboro community.

Mother's gracious hospitality was always enjoyed by relatives and friends. Her prayerful concern, love, and untiring kindness toward her children is responsible for our deep Christian faith. Mother was active in Mission Society work as long as her health permitted.

Because of her arthritic condition she was in failing health for a number of years. Her two youngest children lovingly cared for her in her home. On Dec. 28, 1966 she was admitted to Salem Hospital, where she quietly passed away to be with her Maker.

Preceding her in death were her husband and two grandchildren. Those who survive are her eight children: Mrs. Wm Brandt (Anna), Mrs. Ben Plenert (Edna), Mrs. Menno Plett (Marie), Mrs. H. H. Bartel (Dora, Ben, Earl, Arpa and Albert Ewert; 27 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one brother, Cornelius Goertzen of ElCajon, Calif., and one sister, Bena, Mrs. Dan G. Jost of Hillsboro. &#8212; The Children.
