MRS. THERESIE CHRISTINE EWERT

(Mrs.) Theresie Ewert (nee Krause) was born on March 6, 1897 in Eizenheim, south Russia, the fourth of ten children. She accepted Christ at the age of nine years through the ministry of an evangelist. Later in life, after her marriage, she was baptized and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church in Wohldemfuerst, Kuban.

She attended the girl's school in Chortitza following her elementary education, and later assisted her father in his work as a teacher until her marriage to Leonhard Ewert in 1916. Together they raised a family of three daughters and two sons. Their faith was tested often during World War One and the Russian Revolution, and in 1934 after years of hunger and uncertainty, the doors to Germany opened for the family. After spending over 14 years in Germany, the family moved once more to Vancouver.

Mrs. Ewert's health was never strong enough to allow her to fully participate in church activities. Because of diminishing health, she spent her last 19 months in the Menno Home in Abbotsford, B.C., where she received the best of care. She passed away in the home on April 26 after a stroke.

She leaves to mourn her passing three daughters: Helen (Mrs. Nick) Harder, Margaret and Therese; two sons: Wilhelm and his wife Doris and Rudy and Diana; three brothers and one sister in Germany; 16 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
