— Friends and relatives in the Newton vicinity were shocked to learn of the tragic accident at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin H. Ewert north of Elbing last Thursday which claimed the life of the Ewert’s three-year-old daughter, Sharon Ann. The child was playing on a pile of lumber when somehow her head was caught between two boards. She was found by members of the family and taken to the Bethel hospital, but was dead upon arrival. Funeral services were held last Sunday at the Zion church, Elbing, in charge of Rev. H. J. Dyck. Surviving are the parents and a seven-month-old brother, and the grandparents, Mrs. Henry Epp and Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Ewert, of Newton.

SHARON ANN EWERT

Little Sharon came into our home on March 14, 1945. She was a sweet baby and brought with her joy and sunshine. She was with us only three short years, which were filled with much activity and a living testimony.

She was gifted with a sweet singing voice, and how the little songs she sang will linger in our memories. Some of her favorite choruses were "Heavenly Sunshine," "When He Calls Me, I Will Answer," "Jesus Saves" and others. Always after family devotions in the morning she would start "Heavenly Sunshine," and as we all sang it we little realized how soon she would sing it in Glory. We loved her very much and it seems the life of the home is gone, but Jesus loved her more and what a privilege to know He needed our little rose in heaven. She attended Sunday School regularly, which was a great joy for her.

Little Sharon met with a tragic death on Thursday morning, May 20, about 9:30, only a few minutes after leaving the house. Her mother found her little body soon thereafter when she didn't answer when called. Her mother quickly gathered her lifeless body in her arms and called the father, and they rushed her to Newton. At the hospital the Sisters and doctors tried to revive her, but upon examination found her little neck was broken. She reached the age of three years two months and five days.

So many precious promises come to our minds during all this time and a peace which passeth all understanding comes into our hearts. Even as we were rushing in to the hospital we prayed “Thy will be done."

She leaves to mourn her sudden departure her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Ewert, and little brother, James Myron Ewert, seven months of age; her maternal, grandmother, Mrs. Henry Epp, and parental grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Ewert; her aunts and uncles and seven little cousins; the great-grandmother, Mrs. P. J. Krause, and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Knaak. She had many friends and playmates, because to know her was to love her.

Funeral services were held at the Zion Mennonite church, Elbing, on Sunday afternoon, May 23, at 3:00, with Rev. H. J. Dyck in charge. Rev. Waldo Harder had charge of the services at the home. A girls’ trio composed of Delia and Thelma Andres and Pearl Buller sang some of Sharon's favorite choruses and other numbers, "I Am Jesus Little Lamb" and "Jesus is Always There." At the cemetery an octet sang "Jesus, Rose of Sharon," Pall bearers were Thelma and Della Andres, Pearl Buller, and Sara Mae Janzen. — The Family.
