MRS. HELEN EWERT

(Mrs.) Helena Ewert was born on February 2,1894 in Hillsboro, Kansas, the daughter of the Peter A. Klassens. During childhood she accepted Jesus as her personal Saviour and at the age of 12 years was baptized and received into the Mennonite Brethren Church. After public school education in Kansas, she studied at Tabor College in Hillsboro in 1914 and took nurse's training at the Deacons' Hospital in Newton, Kansas, She later became well-known as a mid-wife in rural Saskatchewan, assisting in the birth of some 150 babies. This work was done as a ministry to the Lord, since it was done with great sacrifice on her and her family's part.

She came to Turnhill, Saskatchewan with her parents in 1918. On March 4, 1920 she married David Ewert, and their marriage was blessed with two daughters and a son. The son died in infancy. She was active in the Mennonite Brethren church until her passing, and made contributions by her consistent everyday life of faith and love. The Lord called her home quietly on April 21, at the Swift Current, Sask., Union Hospital. A funeral service was held on April 23 in the Swift Current Bridgeway Community Church, with pastor Peter Nikkel and Rev. Ed Lautermilch officiating.

She leaves to mourn her beloved husband, David Ewert; two daughters, Ruth (Mrs. Waldemer) Janz of Main Centre, Sask., and Lois (Mrs. Henry) Froese of Success, Sask.; two brothers, Dan Klassen and Rudolph Klassen; four sisters, (Mrs.) Lydia Martens, (Mrs.) Margaret Regehr, (Mrs.) Martha Nickel, and (Mrs.) Esther Janz; seven grandchildren; and many relatives and friends.
