EDWARD FREDRICK EWERT

Edward Fredrick Ewert, son of Frank and Agnes (nee Kliewer) Ewert, was born the thirteenth day of May, 1881, in Harvey county, Kansas, at Gnadenberg. He passed on to his eternal rest the first day of October, 1947, at the age of 66 years, four months and 17 days.

On the 23rd day of June, 1901, he was baptized on confession of faith and received into the church by Elder G. N. Harms. on June 23, 1904, he was united in marriage with Katherine Schmidt. To this union there were fifteen children born, two of whom died in infancy.

In 1907 he moved with his young family from Kansas to Lockwood, Saskatchewan. Here the life of the pioneers was lived. With hard work the family grew and prospered. Mr. Ewert endeavored always to keep abreast of his day in the best methods of farming. He was much interested in the welfare of the church. he did what he could to provide an education for his children.

In 1918 he moved with his family to a new homestead near Drake, to be nearer the church and the school. After a life of hard work, he with Mrs. Ewert retired to the village of Drake in 1942. An oft recuring [sic] illness which had beset him for many years grew steadily worse, and the last months of his life were spent in the Mennonite Invalid Home at Rosthern. He has gone from us as one “Whom we have loved long since and lost awhile.”

“And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord form henceforth; Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.” Rev. 14:13.

Surviving him are his wife, of Drake, his mother and his sister (Sophia Krehbiel), also of Drake. The children, all of whom are married, are Arnold of Bergenfield, New Jersey; Waldin of Ottawa, Ontario; Elmer, Menno, Milton, Orin and Melvin of Drake; Edwin of Rosthern, Saskatchewan; Wiliam [sic] of Saskatoon; Wesley of Philadelphia; Ruth, Mrs. Oscar Hamm, Lockwood; Edna, Mrs. Rudolf Penner, Sardis, B. C.; Edith, Mrs. John Boschman, Langham, Saskatchewan. There are 25 grandchildren. The members of the immediate family were all present to attend the last rites.
