MRS. FRANK EWERT
Mrs. Frank Ewert, nee Agnes Ewert, daughter of Johann and Agneta Kliewer, was born in Michalin, Russia on May 9, 1858, and passed away quietly at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G. A. Krehbiel, Drake, Sask. on March 9, 1951, at the age of 92 years and 10 months.
When she was 16 years old she came to America with her parents and several other families in search of a land with religious freedom. They arrived at Peabody, Kans. in the fall of 1874. At that time Peabody was the nearest railroad station. They were strangers in a strange and untilled land and with others shared the hardships of the early pioneers.
Her opportunities to attend school were few, having only five weeks of English school. However she took advantage of all available opportunities for studying and reading.
She was baptized on confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ on April 5, 1874, by Johann Schroeder.
She was united in marriage May 17, 1880, to Frank Ewert, who preceded her in death on Dec. 6, 1920. Also a daughter Minnie preceded her Dec. 9, 1890, a son William S. on July 12, 1912, a daughter-in-law, Will’s wife, Nov 7, 1920, and Edward F. on Oct. 1, 1947.
She was the oldest child in a family of seven. She leaves to mourn her death her daughter and husband, G. A. Krehbiels; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. E. I. Ewert, who left her hospital bed to attend the funeral; two sisters, Mrs. J. J. Schmidt and Mrs. J. H. Harms, both of Newton, Kans. The latter attended the funeral. There are 17 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends. Mrs. W. H. Jantz (Hilda) a grandchild from Ft. Langley, B. C., came for the funeral.
She was a good mother and has shown us much love during these many years. Many sweet memories will linger with us. Oft times she was lonely and homesick for heaven these last years, but she never wavered in her belief that in due time her Saviour would meet her to call her home. Even in her last days she repeated Bible verses and hymns. She enjoyed comparatively good health until the last week when she was bed-ridden with the flu. She often called to her Master. Her wish to be with Jesus has been granted.
