Although the greater part of his childhood was spent near Peabody, the family also lived at Olathe, Kan., Garden City, Mo., and in southern Michigan. When he was in his late teens the family moved to the Fairmount community west of La Junta, Colo. After he was grown he spent a year in south Texas.

He was a man of integrity and a man of his word, and would become impatient when he did no [sic] find these qualities in others. He enjoyed life and enjoyed his children. Much times was spent playing games which he would play with enthusiasm. Later his grandchildren and even great-grandchildren recall the quieter games he played with them. His children remember the Saturday nights when the family would sing songs from the old Mennonite Hymnal or from the book, "Sheet Music of Heaven."

He went home to be with his God of Feb. 16, 1974, at the La Junta Medical Center, having reached the age of 84.

Mrs. Evers preceded him in death in 1968. He had been a resident of the La Junta Medical Center Nursing Home for the past several years. He was a member of the East Holbrook Mennonite Church which he supported faithfully.

Survivors include: two sons, John and Floyd of the Cheraw community; three daughters, Mrs. Letha Froese and Mrs. Esther Baker, both of Cheraw, and Mrs. Alice Kauffman of Filer, Idaho; 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wesley of Imlay, Nev. and Harley of Ontario, Calif. Preceding him in death were one brother, Lee, and a sister who died in early childhood.
