Crooked, Creek, Alberta. &#8212; A family picnic at the Simonette River near here ended tragically for the Oliver Esau family when their 12-year-old son, Donald, drowned in the river.

The youth and his brother Gordon, 15, went swimming in the river but soon found themselves in trouble in deep water. Their father ran to their rescue, but could only save the older boy. Donald's body was recovered four days later, four miles downstream.

Funeral services were conducted June 16 at the Rosedale Mennonite Church, Min. Dewey Unruh in charge.

12-YEAR -OLD ALBERTA YOUTH DROWNS DURING FAMILY OUTING

Crooked, Creek, Alberta. — A family picnic at the Simonette River near here ended tragically for the Oliver Esau family when their 12-year-old son, Donald, drowned in the river.

The youth and his brother Gordon, 15, went swimming in the river but soon found themselves in trouble in deep water. Their father ran to their rescue, but could only save the older boy. Donald's body was recovered four days later, four miles downstream.

Funeral services were conducted June 16 at the Rosedale Mennonite Church, Min. Dewey Unruh in charge.
