Funeral services for Henry R. Epp, 82, of Buhler were conducted Thursday afternoon, May 27, at the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church. Rev. Frank Keller, the pastor, officiated. Mr. Epp died May 25 at the Hutchinson Hospital after a brief illness. Surviving in the immediate family are his widow, the former Anna Janzen; a son, Richard, of Buhler; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Vigneron of Newton and Mrs. Lorene Graber of Hutchinson; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

HENRY R. EPP

Henry R. Epp, son of John C. and Katherine (Regier) Epp, was born on Oct. 23, 1893, in Harvey County, Kansas. He died in Hutchinson Hospital on May 25, 1976, at the age of 82.

During August of 1908, when Mr. Epp was a young lad, he and his parents and brothers and sisters moved from a farm about seven miles east of Buhler to their present location. It was so hot that summer that they moved their cattle and horses on foot by moonlight.

His formal education ended with the sixth grade. Typical of those times, he started to work early in life. He hauled water with team and wagon for the steam engine during threshing. He also shoveled grain in his early teens. He loved the land and, in his gentle way, did a remarkable amount of work, frequently driving six horses abreast. He lived close to nature and enjoyed the free things in everyday life.

On Aug. 27, 1916, he was baptized and received into the church by Rev. Abraham Martens at the Hebron Mennonite Church.

He was married to Anna R. Janzen on June 25, 1922 by Rev. A. J. Dyck. That same year he was received into the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church by letter of transfer. He had a simple faith that evidenced a deep devotion to God.

His family has always appreciated his stabilizing presence. He was content to invest his total life in family-type activities.

Survivors are his widow; a son, Richard; two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Vigneron and Mrs. Lorene Graber; nine grandchildren; on great-grandchild; brothers, A. R. Epp and John R. Epp; sisters, Miss Elizabeth Epp, Mrs. Kathryn Fehdrau, and Mrs. Agatha Kroeker.

BUHLER—Henry R. Epp, 92, the father of Mrs. Lillian Vigneron of Newton, died Tuesday at Hutchinson Hospital after a short illness.

Services will be at 2 p. m. Thursday at Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, Inman.

Other survivors include his widow, a son, another daughter, two brothers, three sisters, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
