Pastor, Who Served Six Churches, Dies

Goessel, Kan.—Aaron J. Epp, a retired minister who served six pastorates, died March 22. He was 74.

Epp had served pastorates at Inman Mennonite Church, First Mennonite Church in Chicago, First Mennonite Church in Reedley, Calif., Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church of rural Goessel, First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen, Idaho, and Blumenau Mennonite Church in Cuauhtemoc, Mexico.

He had served in Civilian Public Service at Fort Collins, Colo., Downey, Idaho, and Harrisburg, Pa. He had served on the board of directors of Bethel College in North Newton, and on the Board of Christian Service of the General Conference Mennonite Church.

Ep was born March 6, 1918, at Henderson, Neb., the son of John F. and Katharine Bergen Epp. He was a graduate of Bethel College and of Mennonite Biblical Seminary in Chicago.

He married Betty Schmidt at Buhler on June 1, 1944. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Patricia Schmidt of Newton and Mary Schmidt of Canton; two brothers, Herman J. and Jacob J., both of Henderson, Neb.; a sister, Marie Thieszen of Henderson; a foster sister, Tena Dick of Henderson; and four granddaughters.

Graveside services were held March 25 at Alexanderwohl Cemetery followed by a memorial service at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Dennis Schmidt and Milton Harder officiated.

A retired pastor, he servied in Mennonite church in Inman, Kan.; Chicago; Reedley, Calif.; Goessel; Aberdeen, Idaho; and Blumenau Church, Cuauhtemoc, Chihuahua, Mexico. He is survived by Betty, his wife, and two daughters, Patricia Schmidt, Newton, Kan., and Mary Schmidt, Canton, Kan., and their families.
