Maris M. Epp was born May 26, 1891 on a farm in Hamilton County, Neb., near Henderson to Thomas and Anna Friesen Friesen. She died Nov. 29, 1979 at the Henderson Nursing Home at the age of 88. On May 29, 1910 she was baptized and joined the Bethesda Mennonite Church, where she remained a member. She was married to Heinrich M. Epp on Aug. 4, 1910. To this union were born one son and three daughters.
They farmed around Henderson until 1945 when they moved to Henderson because of Mr. Epp's health. In 1946 they became custodians at the Bethesda church, continues that job for 10 years. In 1960 they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
Maria's hobby and life enjoyment after moving to town was quilting. Many quilts were made for the children, grandchildren, friends and missions. Following her husband's death, she moved into Midtown Manor, where she lived for nine years. In 1975 she entered the Henderson Nursing Home.
Surviving are four children and their spouses, Maleta (Mrs. Albert P.) Friesen of Henderson, Wendell H. of Oelwein, Ia., Evelyn (Mrs. Frank D.) Huebert of Adams, Okla., and Estalean (Mrs. Pete) Quiring of Henderson; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
