Early Resident Henry Enz Dies

Henry Enz, 83, lifelong Newton resident and a businessman here for 66 years, died Monday at Bethel Deaconess Hospital after an extended illness.

He formerly resided at 126 SW 3rd and recently had been living at the Kansas Christian Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the 1st Mennonite Church. Dr. Albert Epp will officiate and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Enz was born June 19, 1888 in Newton, the son of Jacob and Catherine (Bartel) Enz. He married Lydia Toews April 7, 1912. Mrs. Enz died May 14 this year.

At the age of 13, Mr. Enz began working in the former Hanlin's store. In 1905 he started work at his trade, first a buggy trimmer, then as an auto trimmer and later as a canvas manufacturer. He was associated with his son, Arthur, in the firm of Henry Enz and Son at his death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John (Gertrude) Harms of Augusta; 2 sons, Jacob of Elkhart, Ind., and Arthur of Newton; 2 brothers, Paul of Newton and Otto of Berkeley, Calif.; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

One sister, Mrs. H. B. (Katie) Wiebe, preceded him in death.
