WILLIAM H. ENTZ
William H. Entz was born Jan. 7, 1879 in Klein Lesewitz, West Prussia, Germany, the fourth son of Abraham and Marie Busenitz Entz. Because of increasing military emphasis in Germany, his parents immigrated to this country in 1882 with their five sons, and the following year they settled on a farm east of Newton, Kan. Here he spent his boyhood days and attended elementary school, and later Bethel Academy.
Upon confession of his faith in Christ he was baptized by Elder Jacob Toews on June 6, 1897, and received into First Mennonite Church of Newton, later transferring his membership to the Zion Mennonite Church at Elbing where he was an active and influential member. Upon his return to Newton, he transferred his membership to the First Mennonite Church.
During the long illness of his mother he was of great help in the home caring for his younger sisters. At the age of 23 he lost his mother in death.
On March 1, 1912 he was united in marriage to Magdalene Regier. They established their home near Elbing. Of the three sons born to this home, one son, Arthur, died in infancy. After 27 years they moved to his former parental home near Newton.
He had a loving, cheerful disposition which made his home a happy one. He had a rare sense of humor, and a way of dispelling gloom with a single sentence. Father loved music and poetry, memorizing many hymns, and these became a source of worship for him.
Our parents were privileged to observe both their 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries.
Since early in life father's health was somewhat impaired. About two months ago failing health made it necessary for him to enter Bethel Hospital and Home for the Aged.
On Sept 12, 1066 he was ushered into the presence of the Lord, leaving to mourn his departure his beloved wife Magdalene; two sons, Albert and wife Frieda, and Oscar and wife Helen; 11 grandchildren; two older brothers, Rev. J. E. Entz and B. W. Entz; one sister, Mrs. E. M. Harder; and many relatives and friends.
