MRS. BARBARA ENSZ

Barbara Ensz, daughter of John and Barbara (Jantzen) Jantzen, was born July 20, 1895, near Plymouth, Neb. where she spent her girlhood days and received her elementary education.

She was baptized on May 26, 1913, by Elder Gerhard Penner and became a member of the First Mennonite Church of Beatrice where she remained a devoted member throughout her life. Her life testified that she had accepted the message and work of the church.

She was married to Gerhard B. Ensz on March 7, 1918, by Elder J. K. Penner at the home of her parents. They walked life's pathway together for a little over 45 years. Our father passed away on June 1, 1963. Five children were born to this union of which the oldest son, William, lost his life in 1945 at the age of 26 through a drowning accident while serving in a C.P.S. camp in California. Our parents observed their silver wedding anniversary on March 7, 1943.

After years of failing health our mother's spirit gently departed on Friday evening, June 14. She attained the age of 72 years, 10 months and 25 days. Our mother has gone home, but she has left to us all a legacy. The church, the Women's Missionary Society which meant much to her and to which she contributed many hours of her time and service, and we, her children and grandchildren, lose much when a life such as hers takes its flight. For her to live was Christ, and we are all made better in heart and richer in soul as we meditate on her blessed life.

She is survived by four children and their families, Johanna Ensz of the home, Albert and Bertina Ensz and two children of Newton, Kan., Ruth and Leonard Schultz and three children of Mt. Lake, Minn., Dorothy and Waldo Claassen and two children or rural Wymore, Neb.; two sisters, Elizabeth and Agatha Jantzen of Beatrice, and many other relatives and friends.
