ABRAHAM D. ENSZ

Abraham D. Ensz, son of Dietrich and Mary (Buller) Ensz, was born Feb. 29, 1872, in Shonsa, Russia.

He came to America with his parents at the age of four years and settled at Marion, S. Dakota, where he grew to manhood. He was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ and joined the Bethesda Mennonite church at Marion.

On April 17, 1898, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Goossen and shared joy and sorrow with her for over 42 years, until her death on June 2, 1940.

They moved to Oklahoma Jan. 7, 1904, and settled in the Meno community where he joined the New Hopedale Mennonite church in 1914.

He had been in failing health for several years, but seriously ill only the past three weeks. On Feb. 8, at 3:40 a.m. he fell asleep, attaining the age of 81 years, 11 months and nine days.

He leaves to mourn his departure eight daughters, Hulda, (Mrs. Peter Wiens) of Lahoma, Okla., Anna ad Mary of the home, Elizabeth (Mrs. Abe Koehn) of Meno, Okla., Helen (Mrs. Ed Pankratz) of Hydro, Okla., Mathilda (Mrs. Leonard Koehn) of Meno, Okla., Louisa (Mrs. Alvin Frey) of Shawnee, Okla., Josephine (Mrs. Arnold Ratzlaff) of Highmore, S. Dakota; four sons, John of Drummond, Dan of Meno, and Henry and William of Ringwood, Okla.; six sons-in-law and four daughters-in-law, 18 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Maria Reimer of Steinbach, Manitoba, and many nieces and nephews. One son and one daughter preceded him in death in their infancy.
