AGATHE ENNS
Mrs. Agathe Enns of Winnipeg was called to her eternal home on September 28. She (and a twin brother who died in infancy) was born on May 24, 1891 in the village of Tiegerweide in the Ukraine, the second daughter of Abram and Katharina (nee Willms) Peters. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Taschtschenak where her father taught school. There she spent her childhood and youth and was later baptized on confession of her faith and became a member of the Mennonite Brethren Church. It was also at Taschtschenak that she was privately educated in her chosen profession as a teacher. For a number of years prior to her marriage she taught school on the estate Schoenborn.
She was married to Gerhard David Enns on May 30, 1921 in the village of Halbstadt, in the Molotschna. Three years later they emigrated to Canada, living for a short time in Kitchener and several years on a farm at Arnaud, Manitoba. After a few more years in Winnipeg, they moved on to a farm at Oakville, Manitoba and joined the fellowship of the Newton Mennonite Brethren Church. She enjoyed working with young people and was active in the Sunday school as well as teaching German. To many children she was known and loved as Tanta Hascha. After their retirement in 1956 they lived first in Steinbach and later in Winnipeg. Her husband passed away in 1965. Since that time she had lived with her children.
She leaves to mourn four daughters, Eva (Mrs. Art) Stevinson, her husband's daughter by a previous marriage, Hedy (Mrs. David) Durksen, Olive (Mrs. Len) Siemens, and Ruth (Mrs. Henry) Schmidt, all of Winnipeg, 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
