JOHN A. ENNS

John A. Enns of Elm Creek, Man. passed away suddenly July 24. He was born Aug. 30, 1923 to John B. and Catherine Enns in Roland, Man. When he was 16, the family moved to a farm near Elm Creek. He accepted Christ in 1943; he was baptized, joining Newton (Man.) MB Church. He attended Winnipeg Bible Institute (now Providence College) 1946-49, earning a degree in child psychology. He later served on the College's Board for several years. He married Mary Schmidt Oct. 6, 1951. They farmed for 3 years until a flood destroyed their crops. They moved to Winnipeg, where he worked as a taxi driver, a door-to-door salesman and a car mechanic. Two years later, they moved back to the farm. He farmed, drove school bus and sold fire insurance. In retirement, he volunteered at the MCC store in Portage La Prairie, Man. He loved to tinker and fix things. Most of all, his heart was with people, getting to know them and trying to meet their physical and spiritual needs. Church life and faith in God were an integral part of his life. He was an usher and loved to greet people at the door. His confidence in God during stressful times gave his children confidence in God. Predeceased by 3 sisters and 1 brother, he is mourned by Mary; children Gary of Elm Creek, Bob of Altona, Man., Terry Dueck of Airdrie, Alta. and Janice Voth of Oakville, Man.; 7 grandchildren; 1 sister and 3 brothers. The funeral was July 28 in Newton Community Fellowship Church, with Aubrey Krahn ministering.
