— Jacob J. Enns, 89 who was a pioneer settler in the Goessel community in1874, died at the Bethesda Hospital there Jan. 8, having formerly been a guest at the Bethesda Home. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Alexandewohl Mennonite Church, Rev. P. A. Wedel officiating. A native of South Russia, Mr. Enns farmed in the Goessel and Canton communities for many years. His wife, the former Elizabeth Schroeder, died in 1954. Survivors include seven daughters; one sister, Mrs. Jacob Unruh of Goessel; 23 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

JACOB J. ENNS

Jacob J. Enns, 89, of Goessel, Kan., passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 8, at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel, where he had been taken from the Bethesda Home some weeks ago.

He was born January 31, 1869, in South Russia, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Enns. He came to the United States in 1874 and lived in the Goessel and Canton communities since that time. In 1891 he married Elizabeth Schroeder, who passed away in 1954.

Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs. John (Mary) Ratzlaff, Lizzie, Mrs. Henry (Ruby) Wiebe, Mrs. T. C. (Betty) Lehrman, Mrs. Henry (Sarah) Unruh, Mrs. Henry (Hulda) Unruh, and Mrs. Elmer (Stella) Brandt. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Jacob Unruh, of Goessel, 23 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, Jan. 12, at 2:30 p. m. in the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church with Rev. P. A. Wedel officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

JACOB J. ENNS

Jacob J. Enns, son of Jacob and Maria Sommerfeld Enns, was born on Jan.31, 1869, in the city of Berdjansk, South Russia.

He emigrated with his parents to the U. S. A. in 1874. They settled first in Council Grove, Kansas and later moved to the Sprinfield [sic Springfield] community near Lehigh, Kansas.

He was baptized upon his confession of faith on June 10, 1889, by Rev. Jacob Buller and joined the Alexanderwohl church where he remained a faithful member the rest of his life.

On Nov. 21, 1891, he was married to Elizabeth Schroeder with whom he shared joys and sorrows for over 62 years. In 1916 they were privileged to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary, in 1941 their golden wedding anniversary, and in 1951 their diamond wedding anniversary.

Our father spent all of his life on the farm until Nov. 5, 1950, when he and our mother moved to the Bethesda Home for the Aged in Goessel, Kansas. Most of his married life was spent on a farm northwest of Goessel in McPherson County.

After the death of our mother in June of 1954, his health failed due to the growth and development of cancer. In September of 1958 it was found that surgery was necessary. His condition improved for a while after this. On Dec. 27, after much pain and suffering, he was admitted to the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel where he passed away on Jan. 8, 1959, at the age of 89 years, 11 months, and eight days.

Preceding him in death were his wife, one daughter Selma, Mrs. Frank Unruh, three grandchildren, his parents, four sisters, and two brothers. He leaves to mourn his departure seven daughters, Mary and husband John J. Ratzlaff of Goessel, Lizzie of Goessel, Ruby and husband Henry Wiebe of Newton, Betty and husband T. C. Lehrman of Goessel, Sara and husband Henry G. Unruh of rural Canton, Hulda and husband Henry Unruh of rural Newton, Stella and husband Elmer Brandt of rural Canton, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Unruh of Wichita; one sister, Mrs. Maria Unruh of the Bethesda Home; and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Henry Enns of Hillsboro, Mrs. P. H. Schroeder of the Bethesda Home, and Mrs. Abr. Schroeder of Newton; 23 frandchildren [sic] and 37 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 12, 1959, in charge of Rev. P. A. Wedel, assisted by Rev. W. W. Harms of the Sprinfield [sic Springfield] K. M. B. Church.
