MRS. ELIZABETH ENNS

Mrs. Elizabeth Schroeder Enns, youngest daughter of Heinrich and Sarah (Schmidt) Schroeder, was born Jan. 2, 1873, in the village of Kleefeld, South Russia. She emigrated with her parents to America when a small child and they settled in McPherson county, Kansas in 1874. There the departed lived until three and one-half years ago when they made their home in Bethesda Old Folks Home in Goessel, Kansas.

She was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ May 26, 1890, by elder Jacob Buller, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, whose faithful member she remained until her death.

She was married to Jacob J. Enns on Nov. 21, 1891, with whom she shared joys and sorrows for over 62 years. To this union were born eight daughters, of whom Selma, (Mrs. Frank Unruh) preceded her in death on March 23, 1921.

In 1916 the parents were privileged to celebrate their Silver Wedding anniversary, in 1941 their Golden Wedding anniversary and in 1951 their Diamond Wedding anniversary.

She suffered several strokes during the last eight years and lost her eyesight about five years ago. She suffered another stroke April 15, after which she entered the Bethesda hospital. She had been bedfast for almost seven weeks. What medical aid and loving care could do was done for her but she steadily grew weaker and on June 1, 1954 at 9:20 she softly fell asleep to be with the Lord whom she loved so dearly.

She reached the age of 81 years and five months.

She leaves to mourn her death her husband, Jacob J. Enns; Mary (Mrs. J. J. Ratzlaff) and family; Lizzie, of the home; Betty, (Mrs. T. C. Lehrman) and family; Sara, (Mrs. H. G. Unruh and family); Hulda, (Mrs. Henry Unruh and family); Stella, (Mrs. Elmer Brandt and family) all of whom live in or near Goessel, Ruby, (Mrs. Henry Wiebe and family) of Newton, and Mrs. Frank Unruh and family of Wichita.

She became gradmother [sic] of 26 grandchildren of whom three preceded her in death, and great-grandmother of 31 children. She also leaves one brother, Abr. Schroeder of Newton; and six sisters-in-law and many relatives and friends.

Hebrews 4:9, "There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God."

THINK

Of stepping on shore and finding it heaven
Of taking hold of a hand and finding it God's hand
Of breathing a new air and finding it celestial air;
Of feeling invigorated and finding it immortality,
Of passing from storm and tempest to an unbroken calm;
Of waking up and finding it Home.

Mother thou art sweetly resting, Here thy toils and cares are o’er
May we all live lives to meet Thee on that bright and happy shore.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 June 4, 1954 at the Bethesda Home for the Aged where Rev. W. W. Harms brought the message, and in the Alexanderwohl church in charge of Rev. Philip A. Wedel.
