BERNHARD J. ENNS
Bernhard Enns was born on August 8, 1886 in the village of Wiesendorf, South Russia, the son of John J. and Helen (Fast) Enns. He grew up in Ufa where he was also baptized upon his confession of faith and received into the Mennonite church.
On July 3, 1911 he was married to Elizabeth Dueck to which marriage the Lord gave seven children, five sons and two daughters. Two sons preceded their father in death. The family left Russia in 1924, settling first two years in Mexico and coming then to Canada where they found a home at Newton Siding, Man.
After 26 years of farming he and his wife retired from the farm and moved to Winnipeg. It was in Winnipeg that they eventually sought full fellowship with the Mennonite Brethren church land so were baptized again and received into the Elmwood Church.
Brother Enns was greatly concerned about the spiritual welfare of his family and the needs of others about him. He served willingly wherever he could. On December 15, 1962 he suffered a car accident from whose effect he never fully recovered. On September 27 he passed away after a short period of hospitalization. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Helen and Betty of Winnipeg; three sons and their families, John and Ben of Newton Siding and Peter of Winnipeg; and a daughterin-law, Mrs. George Enns of Arnaud. The funeral was in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church.
