Birth date: 1887 Dec 13
text of obituary:
MRS. GEORGE J. ENNS
Mrs. George J. Enns, the former Barbara Epp, was born Dec. 13, 1887, at Hendersen [sic Henderson], Neb., the daughter of Rev. Cornelius P. and Aganetha (Schierling) Epp.
As the oldest member of her family there was much work for her, both inside and outside, and she enjoyed it. It became her duty and privilege to take care of her mother, who was sickly and later of her father. The latter died three years before her marriage.
They lived on a farm till 1919, when they moved to Henderson. After her parents had both died, she made her home with her brothers and sister and their respective families. This brought her into close contact with nephews and nieces. She took great pleasure in helping them and seeing them grow up.
Her immediate family consists of a brother, C. C. Epp and wife and their son Adolf and family; another brother, J. C. Epp, and wife and their children, Bertha, Esther and Edwin, all of Henderson. There is also the family of her brother Pete, deceased, Mrs. Helen Regier and daughter Nettie and family of California, and Harry and family of Henderson. Her sister Agnes, Mrs. Jacob Wall, passed away almost two years ago. They had three children, Bertha, Martha and Helen, with their families, all of Henderson. Barbara helped her sister with these girls, because they were quite young when their father died. She did this untiringly and with great pleasure.
On Dec. 27, 1914, she was baptized upon her confession of faith by Elder John Epp and was received as member into the Ebenezer Church, although she had accepted Christ as her Saviour some years before this. She was a consecrated Christian and her life bore testimony of her faith.
On June 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to, George J. Enns, and for nine years, six months and 21 days we were permitted to share joys and sorrows. Our wedding took place on the farm where she had been born, a cottage marriage. We made our home in Hutchinson and lived together happily. She enjoyed our family gatherings and was glad to invite the children to our home and our last Christmas gathering was much enjoyed and will be remembered by all.
Her health was failing because of high blood pressure, and she was under doctor's care. Friday, Jan. 11, she became sick with the flu and was bedfast during the day and night. Saturday morning she woke me and we called the doctor, but since he could not come immediately, she was gone before he came. Death occurred about 9:15 Jan. 12. She reached thte [sic] age of 69 years and 30 days.
Her departure seems to have come too soon and we shall miss her very much, but we look forward to a happy reunion in the eternal home in heaven. She leaves to mourn her departure her bereaved husband, eight stepchildren and their husbands or wives, 13 grandchildren and an additional grandchild through marriage, and other relatives and friends. — George J. Enns & Family.
