MRS. MARY ENGBRECHT

(Mrs.) Mary Engbrecht was born in southern Russia on May 7, 1908, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (nee Warkentin) Engbrecht. Both her mother and father died while she was a child, her mother in 1918 and her father in 1923, and she and her oldest brother were left to fend for themselves. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour in 1923, and this gave her the strength to carry on through those difficult years. She moved to Canada in 1926.

On November 13, 1927 she married John Engbrecht in a double ceremony with her husband's sister. The Engbrechts lived on a farm at Brookdale, Man., for 14 years, then moved to Steinbach, Man., and started their own business. Her youngest daughter, Martha (Mrs. Bob) Kemper, predeceased her in 1969 at the age of 25 years. Mrs. Engbrecht was a praying mother and very close to the Lord. She was without pain during her last five days before her passing on January 13, and was constantly praying for her unsaved children and grandchildren. She looked forward to being with the Lord and to being re·united with her loved ones. A funeral service was held in the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church, with pastor Jake Falk officiating.

She leaves to mourn her beloved husband, John; three daughters and one son, Ann (Mrs. Glen) Matthews, Helen (Mrs. Abe) Penner, Mary (Mrs . Milton) Allison, and John; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many friends.
