Church Leader Dies At Lancaster, Pa.
Lancaster, Pa. — About 900 persons attended funeral services at the East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church here Sunday, Sept. 4, for Frank M. Enck, 60, widely known bishop and pastor of the Vine Street Mennonite Mission in Lancaster. More than 1,200 attended the viewing Saturday evening at a local funeral home.
Ordained to the ministry at the Vine Street Church in 1946, Bishop Enck was well known for his work with young people and as sponsor of men and boys going on parole. He organized a counseling service in marital relations.
He was the founder of the Black Rock Retreat Assn. campground near here, treasurer of the Lancaster Conference, and active in welfare work. He represented the Eastern Board of Missions of deputation trips to Puerto Rico and Honduras.
Thirty-eight years ago he founded a delicatessen business now operated by his sons. He died Aug. 30 after a three-month illness.
