MRS. REBECCA EMMERT

Rebecca Emmert was born Rebecca King, in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, July 14, 1867, the fifth child of Absalom and Susan Hostetler King. She died at her home in Fairview, Mich. May 3, 2956, at the age of 88 years, nine months and 19 days. Of a family of ten children, she was the last one to go to her reward.

When she was a child her family moved to Indiana where she grew to womanhood. On July 24,1887, she was united in marriage to Jerry Stutesman. They were the parents of eight children: Ferd of Onaway, Earl, who died in 1952, Pearl, Mrs. Harry Mast, Susie, Mrs. Milton Rogers, and Omer, all of Fairview, Millard of Saginaw, Emerson of Three Rivers, and Orvil, who died in 1944. The six children, 40 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren survive their mother and grandmother. Also two step-daughters and five step-sons survive.

On April 27, 1919, her husband died and in November 1922 she was married to Jacob Emmert,, who died in May 1934. Since that time she had made her home in the same house with her son Omer and family.

While still a young woman she became a member of the Howard-Miami County Mennonite church. She remained a faithful member of the Mennonite church until her death. Her sense of humor was a help to many.

Grandma Emmert (Aunt Becca to so many) had lived in Fairview for 49 years and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. For many years she had been more or less confined to her home because of her nearly blind condition. It was this condition that caused her to enter the cellar door and fall to the bottom of the stairs before any one was able to stop her. She was in bed 11 weeks after her fall.
