— Relatives have received word of the death of Herman E. Eitzen, 65, former resident of Newton, which occurred Sept. 28 at Mountain Lake, Minn. He is survived by his wife, Kate, and a daughter, Mrs. Alden Stoesz. Herman, Abe, and John Androes of Newton are brothers of Mrs. Eitzen.

HERMAN E. EITZEN

Herman E. Eitzen, son of Peter and Elizabeth Eitzen, was born in Butterfield, Minn., on Nov. 22, 1889, and departed this earthly life on Sept. 29, 1955. He attained an age of 65 years, 10 months and seven days.

The early years were spent in the parental home on the farm. On June 1, 1914, he was baptized upon his confession of faith in Christ Jesus as Saviour and was received in the membership of the Bergfelder Mennonite Church.

In 1925, having moved to Kansas, he transferred his membership to the First Mennonite church of Newton, Kan. Returning to Minnesota later, he transferred his membership to the Bethel Mennonite Church, Mountain Lake, of which he remained a faithful members until his departure.

On Jan. 24, 1922, he was united in holy matrimony with Katie Androes, of the Alexanderwohl Church, Goessel, Kan., with whom he was permitted to share the experiences of life for over 33 years. In 1932, a daughter, Verona, was taken into the home, adding joy to the family and home.

The deceased spent 20 years in the hatchery business, both in Kansas and Mountain Lake. The last six years of his life were spent in operating a book store in Mountain Lake.

He was ever ready to serve in various capacities, especially, in the work of the church. He served on the local Bible School Board, took active part in the music department, Sunday School, and Bible classes.

For a number of years his health had been failing and early in spring of this year, it became apparent that his strength was waning. In quiet confidence he began to order his life in preparation for his departure, fully assured that the Lord, whom he served, was sufficient for every hour. In that confidence he departed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Helen and Katherine (Mrs. John H. Regier) and four brothers, Peter, John, George and Frank. He is survived by his wife, daughter, Verona; son-in-law, Alden Stoesz; four sisters, (Anna), Mrs. D. D. Schultz, (Margaret), Mrs. H. D. Esau, (Elizabeth), Mrs. D. H. Fast, and Marie; five brothers, Cornelius, Henry, Abraham, Rev. David P., and Jacob F., and a host of friends and relatives. — The Family.
