Long-Time Sarasota Businessman Dies

Sarasota, Fla. — Irvin S. Eicher, 61, well-known businessman here, died Dec. 5 at Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

A native of Archbold, Ohio, Mr. Eicher and his brother Olen had been in the scaffolding business business together for 40 years. He had lived in Sarasota since 1943, and after World War II served as an agricultural adviser in China under UNWRA [sic UNRRA].

Surviving are his widow; one son, David E. of Sarasota; four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were held Dec. 8 at Roberts Funeral Home here, with Rev. John Shenk in charge.

IRVIN S. EICHER

Irvin S. Eicher, son of Christian and Anna Frey Eicher, was born May 28, 1908, at Archbold, O. and passed away at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, Fla., on Dec 5, 1969, at the age of 61, following a heart attack.

He spent his youth in Archbold and was baptized upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ and became a member of the Mennonite Church.

On June 17, 1939, Irvin was united in marriage to Fern Beck of Grabill, Ind. In 1943 they moved to Sarasota, Fla. where he was associated in business with his brother Olen in celery farming and later Bill-Jax Scaffolds.

He was a charter member of Bayshore Mennonite Church and at the time of his death was attending Tuttle Avenue Mennonite Church. Irvin had served with UNNRA {sic UNRRA] in China as an Agriculture Adviser and in Rehabilitation work after World War II. At the time his death he was a member of the Board of Directors of F. A. M. E. which is a Community Services for Migrants. He was vitally interested in and supported the Youth for Christ of Sarasota.

Survived by his wife Fern; son David of Sarasota; four brothers, Samuel of Albany, Ore., Andrew of Ft. Wayne, Ind., Reuben of Tedrow, O., and Olen of Sarasota, Fla., with whom he was associated in business for 40 years; four sisters, Eva, Mrs. Samuel Grieser, and Ruth, Mrs. Alfred Nafziger, both of Archbold, Verna, Mrs. Earl Grieser of Napoleon, and Ellen, Mrs. Lawrence Mull, Toledo.

Services were held Monday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. in Robarts Funeral Home, Sarasota, Fla., conducted by Rev. John Shenk. Burial in Palms Memorial Park.
