FAMOUS WASHINGTON JURIST DIED IN HIS SLEEP AT ALEXANDRIA, VA.

Washington, D. C. — Justice Edward C. Eicher, presiding judge at the seven-months-old mass sedition trial in Federal District Court here, died in his sleep at his home at Alexandria, Va., Thursday night, Nov. 30. Justice Eicher, 65, formerly congressman from Iowa, was chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission previous to his appointment as Chief Justice of the District Court for the District of Columbia in 1942.

He was born at Noble, Iowa, Dec. 16, 1878, the son of Bishop Benjamin Eicher and Lydia Sommer-Eicher. Being a lawyer by profession, he held many responsible positions in state and national government. He was a life-long member of the Mennonite church.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JUSTICE EDWARD C. EICHER AT WASHINGTON, IOWA

Washington, Ia. — Funeral services for Chief Justice Edward C. Eicher of the U. S. district court in Washington, D. C. were held Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Washington Methodist church.

Eicher was a former Democratic congressman from Iowa's first district. Among the 300 persons attending the services were members of the Washington County Bar association.

Rev. H. Leonard Metzker, pastor of the Eicher Mennonite church at Noble, conducted the services. he was assisted in the rites by Rev. F. W. Eastwood and Rev. Fred Miller, both of Washington.

Justice Eicher died at his home in Virginia, just outside the nation's capital.
