MRS. DAVID ECK

Mrs. Susie Richert Eck of Kansas City, Mo., daughter of Peter B. Richert and Mathilda Decker, was born Dec. 18, 1880 in McPherson County, Moundridge, Kan.

She spent most of her life in the Moundridge community where she received her elementary education and early church training. She was baptized upon confession of faith that Jesus Christ was her Saviour May 29, 1898 by Rev. Peter Balzer and received into the membership of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. Later she transferred to the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Moundridge.

On Nov. 10, 1901 she was married to David B. Eck at Moundridge, with Rev. P. P. Wedel officiating. After their marriage they moved to Coy, Okla., later to Protection, Kan. and back to Moundridge. On April 16, 1950 they became members of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church. Upon retirement from farming they moved to Newton, Kan. Mr. Eck died Dec. 27, 1962.

Mrs. Eck was a great homemaker and worked hard with the farm work and in the home. The Bible and the hymn book were very much a part of her life.

After the death of her husband, she made her home with her daughter, Adena, in Newton, and the last two years at Kansas City, Mo. with her daughter Mary. She was a patient in the Baptist Memorial Hospital for two weeks prior to her death. Her death was attributed to a cerebral vascular accident. She went to her eternal reward April 30, 1966 having reached the age of 85 years.

Those remaining to cherish the memory of her life are their seven children: three sons, Benjamin and his wife Nora, Douglas, Ga.; Joel and his wife Viola, Valley Center, Kan.; Herman D. and wife Mamie, Newton, Kan.; four daughters, Mathilda and husband Ben B. Decker, Newton, Kan.; Adena and husband Paul Kasper, Newton, Kan.; Martha, Livermore, Calif. and Mary of Kansas City, Mo.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
