— Funeral services were to be held in Montezuma Thursday, for Jacob B. Eck, aged 77, who died last Sunday in Trinity Hospital at Dodge City. A brother, Dave Eck, lives in Newton. Born in 1882 at Moundridge, Mr. Eck made the run with his parents into the Cherokee Strip in Oklahoma, and grew up there. In 1907 he was married to Katie Wedel, who preceded him in death in 1948. Surviving him are three daughters, three sons, 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Rev. Lyman Sprunger was to conduct the funeral.

JACOB BENJAMIN ECK

Jacob Benjamin Eck was born near Moundridge, Kan., Nov. 9, 1882, and departed for heaven from the Trinity Hospital at Dodge City, Kan., at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and seven days. Death came Oct. 16, as a result of multiple complications following surgery.

He was the third of 18 children born to Benjamin and Susanna Eck. As a child he accompanied his parents as they made the run into the Cherokee Strip and claimed a homestead near Ringwood, Okla. As a young man he accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized in the Mennonite church at Meno, Okla.

He married Katie Wedel on March 24, 1907, at Meno. They lived and worked together at Coy, Okla., for several years then moved to Meno, Fairview (1923), Montezuma, Kan. (1928-1934), and back to Fairview, Okla. in 1935. They then moved to Walsh, Colo., in 1942. Mrs. Eck preceded him in death in 1948.

Most of his working life was spent as a tenant farmer. He was a faithful participant in Bible class and church activities, and was vitally interested in mission endeavors. He had been attending the Pilgrim Holiness church of Walsh, Colo.

Survivors include six children, Sophia (Mrs. Adam Rediger) of Abilene, Kan., Adeline (Mrs. John Maurer) of Montezuma, Kan., Melinda (Mrs. Allen) of Harbor City, Calif., Lewis of Pueblo, Colo., Walter of Kansas City, Mo., and Arthur of Santa Clara, Calif.; four sisters, four brothers, 20 grandchildren an [sic] 14 great-grandchildren.
