Ephrata, Pa.—Six persons lost their lives Feb. 22 when the car they were riding in skidded into the path of an oncoming truck near Hinkletown, in what was described as the worst multiple fatality in nearly 10 years in Lancaster County.
The victims include Mahlon B. Martin, 19, of Akron; Eddie Leroy Wright, 19, of Burrton, Kan.; Kathy Eberly, 21, of Womelsdorf; Sonya Lynn Eberly, 4, daughter of Kathy; Minerva Eberly, 18, of rural Lebanon; and Donna Gettle, the driver, 19, of rural Myerstown.
Authorities said the car apparently skidded out of control due to ice and traveled into the path of a tractor-trailer, full of potatoes, driven by Melvin S. Weaver of rural Ephrata. He was not injured.
