Washington Family Killed in Crash

Newton relatives have received a newspaper report of a highway tragedy near Bellingham, Wash. on March 12 which claimed the lives of a Bellingham family.

Dead are Gerhard H. Dyck, 41, his wife Evelyn, 38, and their three children, James, 14, Norman, 12, and Connie, 9.

Mr. Dyck was the son of Henry Dyck, member of a group of 62 Russian Mennonite young men who came to the United States in the early 1920s. Mrs. Henry Dyck is a first cousin of Mrs. G. H. Willms and Abe Dick of Newton.

It was reported that the small car occupied by the Dyck family suddenly crossed the highway center line of the Guide meridian Road and crashed headon into a tractor-trailer rig loaded with shakes. The truck driver was not hurt.
