text of obituary:

PETER R. DYCK

Peter R Dyck, son of Peter and Marie Reimer Dyck, was born Dec. 2, 1877, in the village Fuerstenwerder, South Russia. He departed this life Dec. 12, 1950, at 4:40 o'clock in the morning. He reached the age of 73 years and 10 days.

He grew up in a Christian home. His father died when he was 12 years old and so early in life he had to shoulder many responsibilities of the home. He received only a grade school education.

He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour and on June 6, 1897 was baptized by Elder Peter Balzer and received into the fellowship of the Alexanderwohl church. In the fall of 1914 he and his family joined the Tabor Mennonite church of which he remained a faithful member to the end.

He was united in marriage on May 6, 1903, to Mary Schmidt, daughter of Jacob and Susana Richert Schmidt. This union was blessed with eight children. Two have preceded him in death, Elmer at the age of two and Arthur at the age of 37. His wife also preceded him in death in 1935.

He enjoyed good health most of his life. Once he submitted to a major operation from which he recovered completely and so was able to take up work again and enjoy life. He laid down his work Monday morning, Dec. 4, because of ill health. Saturday of the same week he was admitted to the Bethel Deaconess hospital. Here he received the best of medical care but his stay was of short duration, only two and one-half days. Tuesday morning he quietly fell asleep and awoke to be with the Lord.

He was a good father. He has shown us much love during these many years. Many sweet memories will linger with us. Oft times he was lonely and homesick for heaven these last years. His wish to be with Jesus has been granted him.

He leaves to mourn his death the following, with their families: Ervin, Clara (Mrs. P. A. Unruh), Hulda (Mrs. Armond Frey), Linda (Mrs. Otto Richert), Martha (Mrs. Arnold Voth), Luella (Mrs. Harold Lowe), and Miss Dorothy; 15 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. H. S. Voth and Mrs. F. B. Riesen.

He was laid to rest Dec. 14 in the Tabor Mennonite church cemetery. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. at the Bergen funeral home where Rev. H. B. Schmidt led in devotions, and at 2:00 p.m. in the Tabor Mennonite church where comforting words were spoken by Rev. H. B. Schmidt according to Matthew 25:21. The service at the cemetery was in charge of Rev. Geo. Stoneback.
