— Peter John Dyck, 83, lifelong resident of the Buhler community, died Sunday morning at a Hutchinson hospital after a brief illness. The funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Buhler Mennonite Church with Rev. Harold Thieszen and Dr. D. C. Wedel officiating. Survivors include a son Arnold of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Alva Regier of McPherson, a sister, brother, step-brother, and two step-sisters.

PETER J. DYCK

Peter J. Dyck, son of John C. and Katherina (Ratzlaff) Dyck, was born on Feb. 28, 1887 at Buhler, Kan. On July 23, 1905, he was baptized upon the confession of faith by Rev. Abraham Ratzlaff and received into the Hoffnungsau Mennonite Church, Inman. On Dec. 27, 1920, he became a charter member of the Buhler Mennonite Church. He enjoyed the opportunity to serve as Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent for many years. Church attendance was a part of his life as long as he was able.

On June 10, 1911, he was married to Maria Reimer. They made their home six miles east of Buhler and in 1913 moved to the town of Buhler where he lived till his death. To this union two children were born, a son, Arnold, and a daughter, Elva.

He was a retired businessman having been self employed in the hardware-implement business and trading and dealing. He enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. He considered it a great privilege that he and his wife were permitted to celebrate their 50th anniversary of their married life, to which many of their friends came to wish them well and participate in the festivities on June 10, 1961.

The Lord and Creator, who gives life and receives life, called him by death on Oct. 4, 1970. He has reached the age of 83 years.

Those who survive are a son Arnold; a daughter, Elva, and husband, Art V. Regier; one grandson, Loren Regier and wife Carolyn, and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Nachtigal; one sister-in-law, Mrs. John J. Dyck; one step-brother, C. J. Schmidt; two step-sisters, Mrs. H. H. Flaming, Las Cruces, New Mexico and Mrs. H. H. Ediger; two step sisters-in-law, Mrs. J. F. Schmidt and Mrs. H. F. Schmidt; also many nephews, nieces and friends.
