BRUCE CALVIN DUERKSEN

Bruce Duerksen was the fourth of five children born to Menno and Frieda Duerksen of Steinbach, Man. He was born on May 1, 1960. He grew up in Steinbach and received his elementary and secondary school education there, graduating in June, 1978. From infancy he received the message of Jesus Christ, conveyed to him by his home and through his church. At the time of his death he was employed as a carpenter. On Sunday morning, December 31, God saw fit to take Bruce out of this life through a tragic house fire. He was 18.

He is survived by his parents of Steinbach; his brothers and sisters, Ray of Pickle Lake, Ont., Ken of Winnipeg, and Carol and Bev at home; his grandmother, (Mrs.) Anna Heier, as well as numerous relatives. A joint funeral service was conducted together with the family of the late Abe Bergman who died in the same fire, on Thursday January 4, from the Steinbach Mennonite Brethren Church. Pastor Jake Falk and Corny Rempel were the ministers in charge The parents and family mourn the loss of a son and brother, but submit to God's providence, as recorded in Psalm 119: 137: "Righeous art thou, oh God, and upright are thy judgments."
