— Funeral services for Mrs. Dan Duerksen, 66, were held Sunday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl church near Goessel, Rev. John Thiessen and Rev. P. A. Wedel officiating. Mrs. Duerksen died March 9 at the Bethesda Hospital in Goessel where she had been a patient for about five weeks. She was born in Russia May 31, 1894 and came to the Buhler community at the age of five. Following her marriage to Mr. Duerksen they lived on a farm near Goessel. Surviving are her husband; two sons, Marvin of the home and Milton of Rt. 2, Canton; three daughters, Mrs. Ronald Unruh of Durham, Mrs. Rudolf Schroeder of Rt. 2, Hillsboro, and Ella of the home; three sisters, five brothers, and five grandchildren.

MARGARET L. DUERKSEN

Mrs. Margaret L. (Regier) Duerksen, daughter of Henry G. and Katherine Loewen Regier, was born May 31, 1894 in Rudnerweide, South Russia. She immigrated to the U. S. with her parents in 1898. They purchased a farm southeast of Buhler, Kan. where the family lived.

Having been reared in a Christian home, she was led to the Saviour in early childhood. She took catechism instruction in the Hebron Church from her pastor, and was converted and baptized Aug. 12, 1906, by Elder Abraham Martens, and united with the Hebron Church near Buhler, Kan. As a young girl she was very active in her church and helped her parents with the many duties on the farm.

On May 8, 1932 she was united in marriage to Dan Duerksen, and took over mother’s duties to three children of her husband’s previous marriage, Ella, Eulalia and Milton. This marriage was further blessed by two children, Dora and Marvin.

After her marriage she transferred her membership to the Alexanderwohl Church, where she remained a faithful member until her death. She was a member of the Mission Society of the church and attended the services faithfully as long as health permitted. She was very devoted to her family and admonished them continuously to live the Christian life.

One of the milestones of her married life was the celebration of the silver wedding anniversary at the Alexanderwohl Church in 1957.

The departed enjoyed quite good health most of her life. About two years ago her health began to fail and every possible medical aid was tried. In her illness at home, her husband and her children Ella and Marvin ministered to her. She was taken to the Bethesda Hospital at Goessel, Kan. on Feb. 1. Every possible medical care was given to her, but seemingly her work was finished here on earth, and she fell asleep very peacefully on March 9 at 3 a.m., reaching the age of 66 years, nine months and eight days.

Those who mourn her passing are her husband, Dan Duerksen, and the following children, Ella and Marvin of the home; Eulalia, Mrs. Rudolf Schroeder and husband, Hillsboro; Dora, Mrs. Ronald Unruh and husband, Durham; and Milton Duerksen and wife, Alice, Canton; five grandchildren; three sisters, Katie, Mrs. A. R. Siemens and husband of Buhler, Anna, Mrs. J. P. Franz and husband of Buhler, Lizzie, Mrs. W. T. Dick and husband, Burrton; five brothers, Henry L. Regier and wife Lizzie, John L, and wife Marie, David L. and wife Anna, all of Buhler, and Jacob L. Regier of Burrton, three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and many other close relatives and friends. Her parents, three sisters, one brother, one sister-in-law and one brother, child preceded her in death.

Rev. John Thiessen, pastor of the church and Rev. P. A. Wedel of the Bethel Mennonite church, Buhler, officiated at the funeral services, Sunday, March 12, at 2 p.m. in the Alexanderwohl Church. Interment was made in the church cemetery.
