KATHERINE DUECK

Katherine Dueck died peacefully Oct. 22. She was born June 11, 1920 in Kistenkej, Russia, to Henry and Katherine Kasper. When she was 5, her family immigrated to Canada. At 7, Katherine accepted Christ as Saviour and at 13 was baptized, joining the Mennonite Brethren church. She married Abram Henry Dueck Nov. 3, 1940. They farmed in Truax, Sask. for 5 years, then moved to Manitoba. After retirement from farming in 1976, Katherine worked as a health care aide. She also cared for Abram during his battle with Alzheimer's disease, until his death in 1998. The couple raised 5 children and parented 15 foster children. Katherine enjoyed bus tours, reading, stamp collecting, puzzles, crocheting, knitting, and letter writing. Her faith guided her and she had a great love for God's Word. Katherine taught Sunday school and Bible studies for many years. Predeceased by Abram; 4 brothers; 2 sisters; she is mourned by children Art (Star), Linda (Peter), Bob (Karen), Delvina, and Pam; 14 grandchildren; 6 great- grandchildren; 1 brother. The funeral was Oct 26 at Wheatland Chapel, Killarney, Man.
