Margarete Dueck

Margarete Dueck of Abbotsford, B.C. passed away Mar. 8. She was born July 2, 1894 to Johann P. and Anna Siemens in Donskoye, Neu-Samara, Russia. When she was 4, the family moved to a farm at Omsk, Siberia. She accepted Christ at age 7 and was baptized at 11. She studied under Dr. Pete Rogalsky for 3 years to become a nurse and midwife. In 1927 the family immigrated to Winnipeg. She did housework, but had no satisfaction. She felt called to the mission field, so studied at Winkler Bible Institute 1928-32. In 1936 she went to Bololo, Mrica to work as a nurse and midwife to the Dengese tribes, serving until 1940. In 1941 she went to Colombia, where she laboured for 5 years. She then returned home to care for her mother for 14 years. In 1963 she married Johann Peter Dueck of Yarrow, B.C. In 1970 they moved to Clearbrook, B.C., joining King Road MB Church. In January, 1976 Johann died. She moved to Menno Home in Abbotsford, where she spent much time reading to others who could not read or did not know the Bible. She found many reasons to be thankful, praising God and thanking him for his leading in her life. Her prayers were a blessing. In February she developed pneumonia and had great pain; she could not speak but could still smile. She is remembered as one who lived her life for others with great devotion. Her sister's stepdaughter Martha Toews was with her when she passed away. She is survived by stepson Peter Dueck of Clearbrook.
