Birth date: 1876 Jan 9
text of obituary:
SUSIE DOERKSEN
Susie Doerksen, our mother and grandmother, was born Jan. 9, 1876, in Lancaster County, Pa., and died in the Park View Hospital, El Reno, Okla. on Feb. 14, 1961. She reached the age of 85 years, one month and five days. Her parents were David and Marie (Jantz) Voth.
When mother was three years old the family migrated to Kansas, where they settled in McPherson County. At the age of 17 she was baptized upon her confession of faith and became a member of the Mennonite church.
On April 9, 1898, she was united in marriage with John J. Doerksen in Wichita, Kansas. This union was blessed with four children, two sons and two daughters. The two sons preceded mother in death: Walter in May 1904 and Clarence in April 1957.
In 1912 the move was made to Oklahoma, where father followed his trade as superintendent of mills. In 1918 the family moved to Geary where mother lived till her death. A great sorrow came into her life when father died in May 1939. She often yearned to follow him and he with him. Though mother was in good health most of her life, she had to undergo considerable pain and discomfort in the last weeks of her life.
She leaves to mourn her death her two daughters, Florence, Mrs. L. L. Lehman of Geary, Okla., and Isbell, Mrs. Dee Webb of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Ben Voth of Goltry, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Jake Wedel of Enid, Okla. and Mrs. Anna Schultz of McPherson, Kan.; seven grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends.
Mother is at home, at rest with the Lord. Our faith lies in Him who said, “I am the resurrection and the life.” — The Family.
