SARA DIRKSEN
Sara Dirksen was born on August 10, 1906 in Herzenberg, Ekatarinoslov, Russia as the second youngest daughter of Franz and Helena Dirksen. In 1921 she immigrated with her parents to New Jersey and several years later to Herbert, Saskatchewan. In 1942 she and her parents moved to a farm in the Niagara Peninsula in Ontario. After the death of her mother, she and her father moved to a home in Virgil. Because of her love of flowers and plants, Sara enjoyed several years working in the greenhouse of a local florist. After her father's death she continued living in the home in Virgil until August, 1977, when she relocated to the new Pleasant Manor in the same town. During her teenage years Sara accepted the Lord as her personal Saviour. In 1930 she was baptized and became a member of the Main Centre (Sask.) Mennonite Brethren Church. She later enjoyed many years of fellowship at the Virgil Church. In spite of a heart ailment and a hearing problem, she attended church faithfully and gladly. On October 23, in the early morning, the Lord called sister Dirksen home. She was predeceased by her parents and two sisters. Left to mourn are two sisters, Helen (Mrs. Jake) Unger of Saskatoon, Sask., and 'Tina (Mrs. Peter) Nickel of Clearbrook, B.C.; nephews, nieces, and many friends.
