• Mrs. Adolf N. Dirksen, 65, of rural Canton died April 28 at Bethel Hospital here. The funeral was conducted Monday afternoon at the Alexanderwohl Church, with Rev. Aaron Epp in charge. Mrs. Dirksen leaves her husband and a son Evan of the home, two other sons and two daughters, nine grandchildren, brothers and sisters. Mrs. Vernon Frey of Newton is a daughter.

MRS. ADOLF N. DIRKSEN

Mrs. Adolf N. Dirksen, nee Martha Schmidt, Route 2, Canton, Kan., daughter of Peter Schmidt and Helena Unruh, was born June 21, 1901 in Marion County, Kan.

She graduated from the Gordon Elementary School and attended the Goessel Preparatory School. She was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour, June 8, 1919 and became a life-long member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church.

She entered into holy matrimony with Adolf N. Dirksen, May 15, 1926. Elder Peter H. Unruh officiated. They moved to a farm located several miles northwest of the church where they spent their entire life. To this union were born five children. They enjoyed celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary in 1951.

Mrs. Dirksen was a good wife, homemaker and a friendly mother. She had good interest in the fellowship of the church. In 1951 she became afflicted with arthritis which was the beginning of much suffering. In 1963 she developed a leg ulcer which caused her to spend much time in bed and in hospitals. She was able to exercise the gift of patience and endured hardship well.

She entered the Bethel Deaconess Hospital April 22, 1967 and was received into the eternal habitation of her Lord April 28, 1967, having reached the age of 65.

Those remaining to cherish the memory of her life are: Her husband Adolf, of Canton; their five children — Evan at home, Erma and her husband Ray Gallaway, Rosalia, Kan., Melvin and his wife, Arzella, Denver, Colo., Dennis and his wife Sherland, Hyde Park, Utah, Velma and her husband, Vernon Frey, Newton; nine grandchildren; one brother, Jacob R. Schmidt, rural Newton; one sister Helena, Mrs. D. L. Schmidt, rural Hillsboro; one step-brother, David Ediger, Goessel; one step-sister, Mrs. D. J. Schmidt, Wichita; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. P. B. Schmidt, Goessel, and Mrs. Marie Schmidt Wedel, Newton; one brother-in-law, Rev. Walter Dyck, Henderson, Neb.
