MRS. SUSIE DIRKS

Susie Dirks, nee Schmidt, was born August 17, 1887, in Marion county, Kansas, and departed this life March 20, 1960, in the home of her daughter Myrtle, reaching the age of 72 years, seven months, and three days.

She grew to womanhood in Marion county, Kansas, where she received her education. At the age of 16 years she felt her lost condition and the need of salvation. She repented and received forgiveness of sins through Jesus her Lord. In 1903 she was baptized upon the confession of her faith and became a member of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. She remained faithful and true to her vows and loyal to the church unto the end.

On Nov. 10, 1907, she joined hands in holy matrimony to Sam Dirks. She was a devoted and faithful wife and a loving mother to her children. She was industrious and looked well after the affairs and welfare of her household. She was given in hospitality, extending a friendly welcome to all. She was sympathetic and compassionate toward the poor and needy, and opened her hand of support wherever possible.

Just prior to her husband's passing she had a heart attack from which she never fully recovered. Saturday evening she felt unusually well. She studied her Sunday school lesson and read several chapters from the Bible before retiring. During the night she quietly and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus.

To this union eight children were born. Her sudden departure is mourned by her children, Walter, Mabel (Mrs. Meno Koehn), Clara (Mrs. David J. Koehn), Myrtle, Henry, Frances (Mrs. Daniel J. Koehn), Vernon, and Virginia (Mrs. Wilbur Koehn), all of Montezuma; 26 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Koehn and Minnie Schmidt of Montezuma, and Eva (Mrs. Henry Unruh) of Upland, Calif.; and a host of relatives and friends.

Her husband, her parents, three brothers, two sisters, and three grand-children preceded her in death.

We mourn, but not without hope. We believe she has gone to be with her Lord in eternal bliss and glory. — The Family.
