text of obituary:
MRS. MARY DIRKS
Mary Becker Dirks was born January 10, 1884, in Harvey county, Kansas and died at her home 525 N. Jordan, Liberal, Kans. ons January 11, 1951, at 3:30 o’clock at the age of 67 years and one day.
She was baptized on confession of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour by Elder Abraham Ratzlaff on June 1, 1903 and received into the Hoffnungsau church at Inman, Kansas. In 1901 she joined the Friedensfeld Mennonite church of Turpin, Okla. as a charter member, where she remained a faithful members to her death.
Even when her health failed and she could not attend church services, she occupied her time trying to serve her Lord in many different ways, being patient in suffering, ready to answer the call of her Lord in whom she had put her trust.
She underwent major surgery or Sept. 18, 1944, from which she never fully recovered. However through the grace of God she could bear the burden laid upon her, having the blessed assurance that her burden would not be greater than she could bear.
She always had a heart of sympathy for the sick and needy. She was a cheerful giver and found much joy in giving, believing that "it is more blessed to give than to receive.” She greatly appreciated the kindnesses shown to her during her illness.
On August 9, 1906, she was married to John T. Dirks in Harvey county. On August 20, 1906 they moved to Beaver county, Okla. To this union six children were born, one preceding her in death in infancy.
She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and five children, Hulda, Mrs. N. W. Dick and husband; Johnny Dirks and wife; Helen, Mrs. Arnold Regier and husband; Vera Dirks of the home; Thelma, Mrs. Henry Boese and husband; also six grandchildren: two sisters, Mrs. I. H. Friesen of Henderson, Neb., and Mrs. Henry Friesen of Adams, Okla.; one brother, J. J. Becker of Buhler, Kansas, and many other relatives and a host of friends. Four sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
We will miss her in our family circle, but her love and care and prayers will live even though she has departed from us. We grant her the rest after a life of service and faith and much suffering. We therefore do not say “good-by" but merely “Till we meet again."
