• Miss Katie Dirks, 75, a resident of Friendly Acres in Newton, died there Monday morning after an extended illness. The funeral was announced for 10 a.m. Monday at the Bethel College Church, of which she was a member, with Rev. Russell L. Mast officiating. A native of the Buhler community, Miss Dirks had lived here most of her life. She leaves two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Schrag of McPherson and Mrs. E. C. Eymann of Flagstaff, Ariz., and one brother, A. M. Dirks of Hesston.

KATIE DIRKS

Katie Dirks, daughter of Henry and Susanna (Martens) Dirks, was born Dec. 7, 1892 near Buhler, Kan. and passed away April 15, 1968 at the age of 75 in Friendly Acres, Newton, Kan.

At the age of 16 Katie made her decision for Christ during revival services held in the schoolhouse of District 78. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith in June 1909, and received into the Hebron Mennonite Church near Buhler. After the family moved to Newton, she transferred her membership to the Bethel College Mennonite Church in November 1917. As a member of her church she was faithful until her passing, devoting much of her time and energies in the work of the Ladies Missionary Society and the relief work of the church.

After the passing of her mother in 1917 she took over the household responsibilities in the home and continued to take care of her father until his death in 1953. Her sister Lena (Mrs. William Dunn) preceded her in death in December last year.

Her passing is mourned by her brother, A. M. dirks of Hesston, Kan.; two sisters, Mrs. R. J. Schrag of McPherson, Kan. and Mrs. E. C. Eymann of Flagstaff, Ariz.; eight nephews and five nieces and their families, and a host of friends and relatives.
