Caroline Unruh was born September 9, 1865 at Astroga, Russia. When eight years of age she came with her parents to America and lived in Wayne County, Ohio.
Four and one half years later they moved to Kansas and settled in Lone Tree township in the vicinity of Moundridge, where she grew to womanhood.
She was united in marriage to Andrew Dirks in 1882. To this union were born fourteen children. Three preceded her in infancy to the great Beyond.
During the early years of her married life she was united with the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite of which she was a faithful member, until she was called to her Heavenly Home.
She was in invalid for almost four years suffering with arteriosclerosis, the last eight months being spent in Bethel Hospital at Newton, Kansas, where she quietly passed away, after a short illness of pneumonia on November the 14th at 10:50 o'clock, at the age of 63 years 2 months and 5 days.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, five sons, Henry, Jacob, Pete, Ben and Herman and six daughters, Mrs. Emil Seiler, Mrs. P. P. Tschetter, Mrs. L. Gilbert Little, Mrs. M. P. Unruh, Mrs. Benj. Smith, and Miss Eva Dirks, twenty-three grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Lena Stubby, besides many relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Lone Tree Church Sunday, and conducted by Rev. Frank Wenger of Hesston, assisted by Rev. Jac. Dirks of Halstead and Rev. John Becker of Lone Tree.
