Businessman, Leader In EMC Conference Dies at Bluffton

Fort Wayne, Ind. — Clarence D. Diller, 62, prominent businessman of Bluffton, Ohio and a lay leader in the Evangelical Mennonite Church, died there on March 17 of a heart attack. ' Memorial services were held at the Ebenezer Mennonite Church two miles west of Bluffton on Friday, March 21, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Reuben Short and Rev. Dan Dalke in charge.

Mr. Diller gave a lifetime of service to the Evangelical Mennonite Church and to his local congregation in Bluffton. He was the treasurer of the Commission on Mission for 27 years, 1935-1962, member of the Congo Inland Mission Board from 1956-1968, on the Board of Trustees from 1935-1959, member of the Conference Expansion Committee, 1942-1948, and served on the General Executive Board from 1962-1965.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Claudon Diller, two daughters, Marie (Mrs. Lloyd) Brown, and Ruth (Mrs. Spencer) Sawyer; and five sons, Alfred, David, Mark, James and Timothy.

During his lifetime Mr. Diller had been a farmer and banker, and for many years owned an insurance agency. In 1965 the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company named him "Agent Emeritus."
