— Mrs. Arthur (Katie) Diener, 73, died at her home on Route 2, Canton, last Saturday evening. The former Katie Schweitzer, she was a native of Osborne County, Kan. Funeral services at the Spring Valley Mennonite Church on Tuesday afternoon were in charge of Rev. Harry A. Diener of Hutchinson.

KATIE SCHWEITZER DIENER

Katie Schweitzer Diener was born near Osborne, Kan. on May 5, 1888 to George and Frona Schweitzer. She passed away Sept. 30, 1961 at the age of 73 years, four months and 25 days at her home near Canton, Kan.

She was married to Arthur D. Diener on Feb. 9, 1913, and they lived on the same farm the entire 48 years of their married life.

Surviving are her husband and four children, Christian, Wilma and Rachel of the home, Jesse and wife Vera with two granddaughters, Phyllis and Shirley Diener of Route 2, Canton; two brothers, John Schweitzer of Osborne, Kan. and Rev. Charles Schweitzer of Moscow, Kan.; and one sister, Mrs. George (Lovina) Eaton of Osborne.

She accepted Christ as her Saviour in her early youth and became a member of the Mennonite church. The last 48 years she was a member of the Spring Valley Mennonite Church where she served faithfully as a lay-member, Sunday school teacher and as president of the W.M.S.A. in its early years.

Her home was always open to others and many enjoyed her hospitality. She was a great lover of her garden and flowers. She shared of their fruits with many of her friends. She continually looked to the Lord to bless the efforts of her labors.

She enjoyed good health until three years ago. This spring she suffered a heart attack from which she recovered to enjoy a fair degree of health the last two months. She prepared the evening meal for her family as usual on the evening of her passing, and passed away of a heart attack at 11:30 that night.

Many times she expressed deep concern for the church, which she attended faithfully and enjoyed. She was interested in the spiritual life of her family. Her Bible was precious to her, having read it through a number of times and completing her last reading Sept. 20, ten days before her passing.

Memorial services were held Oct. 3, 1961 at the Spring Valley Mennonite Church with Rev. Harry A. Diener of Hutchinson, Kan. in charge, assisted by Rev. Milo Kauffman of Hesston, Kan. Interment was in the Spring Valley Church cemetery.
