JACOB DIECK
Jacob Dieck, son or Abraham and Catharine, nee Harder, Dieck was born December 1, 1885, on a farm near Whitewater, Kansas, which remained his home until the time of his death.
He attended Bible school several years, with G. G. Wiens, John Thierstein and B. W. Harder as some of his teachers. He also attended district school near his home.
On confession of his faith he was baptized June 1, 1903, by Elder Gustav Harder and became a member of the Emma us Mennonite church.
Besides his parents, his only sister preceded him in death.
On November 15, 1917, he was married to Helene Justine Harder and they shared joys and sorrow for nearly 35 years. In 1942 they were privileged to celebrate the silver wedding anniversary in the midst of many relatives and friends. It was a day of rejoicing and thanksgiving to the Lord.
On September 14 he suddenly became ill but his condition did not seem serious. He showed no sign of improvement, so on September 16 he was admitted to the Bethel Deaconess Hospital at Newton, Kansas. On Wednesday morning, September 17, at 4:32 he quite suddenly and unexpectedly passed away due to a heart attack. He attained the age of 66 years, nine months and 16 days.
His ambition was to be a good husband and father and enjoy the blessings of a Christian home. His courteous and friendly attitude will linger with his family and all who knew him. We will miss his companionship and his consideration for his family.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, two sons, Abraham and Carl, four daughters, Anna Helen, Marguerite, and Elsie, and one son-in-law, Raymond Hiebert and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held a 2:00 p.m. September 20 at the home and at 3:00 p.m. at the Emmaus Mennonite church with Rev. H. J. Dyck and Rev. Walter H. Dyck officiating. Burial was made in the Emmaus cemetery. — The Family.
