JOHN A. DICK

Our father, John A. Dick, son of John Dick and Anna Penner Dick, was born in the villege [sic] of Waldheim, Southern Russia, on February 14, 1875. When he was but a child of two years of age his parents emigrated to America and settled in Harvey County, Kansas, where he spent his childhood days and years and also attended the public schools.

When he was 19 years of age he accepted Christ as his personal Saviour and on July 8, 1894 was baptized by Rev. Dietrich Gaeddert and accepted as a member into the Hopeview Mennonite church, whose member he remained till his departure. He lost his mother through death when he was 12 years of age and his father died when he was 22 years old.

On August 19, 1906, he was united in marriage to our mother, Bessie Newport. With her he was permitted to share the joys and hardships of life for almost 36 years. He deeply felt her departure when she passed from him and us on March 10, 1942.

To this union four children were born, three sons and one daughter. He was a locing father who cared for our material as well as spiritual welfare. His love will live even though his eyes are closed and his lips have become silent. We tender him his rest after a life full of toil and care as well as many joys. We say not "Good-bye", but merely "Till we meet again."

His health failed rapidly after mother passed from him. The last three months he suffered much from internal cancer. He made his home with his daughter, Grace, who lovingly cared for him together with his sister, Tina Dick. The love will find its reward. He was ready to depart to be with Christ his Saviour whom he trusted to the end. He spent a week in the hospital, but the doctors advised him that help could not be given permanently, so he went to stay with his daughter where he quietly passed to his reward on Saturday, September 4, at 6:35 A. M. at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 20 days. He leaves to mourn his departure one daughter, Grace, and husband Albert Becker; three sons, John and wife of Burrton, Kansas, Clarence and wife of Buhler, Kansas and Harry and wife of Minneapolis, three half-sisters, Mrs. H. B. Flaming an Miss Tina Dick, both of Corn, Okla.; and Mrs. J. J. Friesen, Clinton, Okla., and many relatives and friends.

I heard the voice of Jesus say:
Come unto me and rest.
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast.
I came to Jesus as I was,
Weary and worn and sad.
I found him in my resting place,
And He has made me glad.

Funeral services were held in the Christian Church at Burrton, Kan., the Rev. A. J. Dyck officiating. A girls' duet sang several appropriate selections. Interment was in the Burrton Mennonite cemetery.
